Run away to Sea for the Adventure of a Lifetime
LEARN WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK ON A BLUE WATER, WORKING SQUARE RIGGER
Fulfill your dream - runaway to sea - build your seatime credits - we now have the following positions vacant, on Brigantine Windeward Bound, Australia’s broad based training ship. Blue water voyages are always subject to market demand and funding, however the ship is working all the time and the positions involve tourism harbour sails when not at sea, eco-tourism coastal voyages at least twice a year, and sail training youth development voyages for a variety of teenage clientele as demand and funding exist, interspersed with ongoing shipboard maintenance programs.
The full training for maritime command certificates is only available to Australian citizens or permanent residents. (As state issued "tickets", these certificates are not currently recognised in most countries outside Australia, however, they are recognised Australia wide and in New Zealand)
DECKHAND POSITIONS
Are you seeking a career in the Maritime Industry?
Are you seeking a Coxswain, Master 5 or MED 3 certificate of competency?
Interested in halving your seatime requirement?
We have a limited number of opportunities for live-aboard volunteer deckhands, male or female. Experience not necessary, full board and lodging provided.
Full training and assessment is provided in accordance with the new NSCV "Recognition of Practical Experience at Sea”
Requirements. Preference will be given to applicants who currently hold a General Purpose Hands certificate or an Elements of Shipboard safety certificate. Those applicants not already holding these certificates may still apply as training will be provided.
We are seeking someone with a sense of humour, an ability to get along with people and a thirst for a different experience. There are, however, criteria to be met:
Age range from 20 to 35
Must be average weight for height
Must be a NON smoker
Must be a non drug user and drug free
Must be able to work at heights
Must be reasonably fit
Must be able to comfortably lift own weight
Minimum 6 month commitment required
SECOND MATE'S POSITION
Are you seeking to further your career in the Maritime Industry? Do you already have an open or restricted Master 5? Interested in obtaining a sail or square rig endorsement? Are you a natural leader?
We have an opportunity for a volunteer 2nd Mate, male or female. Square rig experience not necessary, full board and lodging provided. (There will be the option of paid contract employment on board when appropriate)
Full training and assessment is provided to meet the standards of the British Nautical Institute Square rig certificate
We are seeking someone with a sense of humour, an ability to get along with people and a thirst for a different experience. There are, however, criteria to be met:
Age range from 20 to 40
Must be average weight for height
Must be a NON smoker
Must be a non drug user and drug free
Must be able to work at heights
Must be reasonably fit
Must be able to comfortably lift own weight
your commitment to the position is required
Must be a leader
CADET LEADERSHIP POSITIONS
Are you seeking a career in the Maritime Industry?
Are you seeking a Coxswain, Master 5 or Med 2 or 3 certificate of competency?

We have an opportunity for 2 only live aboard Maritime leadership Cadets, male or female. Experience not necessary, full board and lodging provided. This position is only open to Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand
Full training and assessment is provided in accordance with the new NSCV "Recognition of Practical Experience at Sea”
Requirements. All course requirements, both practical and academic will be provided at our cost.
We are seeking someone with a sense of humour, a sense of commitment, an ability to get along with people and a thirst for a different experience. There are, however strict compliances:
Age range from 20 to 30
Must be average weight for height
Must be a NON smoker
Must be a non drug user and drug free
Must be able to work at heights
Must be reasonably fit
Must be able to comfortably lift own weight 2 year commitment required
CAPTAIN'S CLERK (SHIP'S PURSER)
Must be computer literate on Apple and PC, especially Microsoft XP.
Must have an organised mind
Must be capable of working accurately with figures
Must have a good telephone manner, and a knowledge of media and PR liaison would be an advantage.
The position is a full time, live-aboard, voluntary position, full board and lodging provided on board. Minimum 6 month commitment required. The successful applicant will travel with the ship.Applicant must also meet the criteria applicable to deck crew.
SALES AND MARKETING EXECUTIVE
A position has arisen for a sales and marketing person to handle the general marketing of the ships program to schools, service clubs and the general community. The succesful applicant will also be responsible for the initial exploration of new corporate sponsorships as opportunities arise.
The successful applicant will have a strong background in the subject and will be preferably have experience in the Youth Development area, though not necessarily in Sail Training.
The ships primary areas of operations are Tasmania and Victoria and consideration will be given to applicants that wish to focus on their own state, although a two state approach would be preferred.
Remuneration is by retainer and percentage payment on the value of bookings obtained.
