The incredible World Heritage area of South West Tasmania holds one of the world's best kept secrets…Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour - mile upon mile of unsettled waterways, totally sheltered from the sometimes wild Southern Ocean, a network of unique marine life undisturbed for millennia. Arriving off the coast and entering Port Davey under square sail has to be one of the most unique experiences left on this planet of ours., to sail into and along this wonderful place is like going back countless centuries, and imagining you are seeing it through the eyes of the explorers of past and distant times. on the way there and back, you will also visit Recherche Bay on the far south coast. First visited by the French expeditions under Bruni D'entrecasteaux in 1792, this once thriving area has returned almost to wilderness and is on the edge of the South Coast National Park.Windeward Bound is a traditional square rigged Tall Ship, authentic in every way and is sailed and handled exactly as her forebears were 2 and 3 hundred years ago. However, unlike her forebears, today's adventurers enjoy good food, hot showers, comfortable bunks, first class wines with dinner and an escape from an often frenetic world.

The Windeward Bound is operated and crewed by highly qualified volunteers, so all income goes towards assisting the provision of development programs for all young Australians.Windeward Bound Trust is a registered charity, and provides Youth Development to the young people of Tasmania and Australia, as well as providing practical seamanship training and assessment to young Australians seeking maritime qualifications. It is a philosophy of the Trust that we will assist those young people that cannot afford to be onboard otherwise, (it is the Trust's philosophy to provide a helping hand rather than a handout).
