Windeward Bound Poem

Farewelling the 'Norfolk' from 'Windeward Bound'
Giant-sailed, tall-masted square rigger.
Galley, cabins and saloons down below,
Long, wooden bowsprit with safety net under.
And Oscar, the ship's dog freshly shampooed,
Roaming the decks and protecting us all.
Sailmaster's commands from up on the deckhouse,
Helmsman responding and steering corrected.
Crew pulling on ropes and hoisting the sails,
Adjusting the spars and climbing the rigging
Ship heeling, wind howling and sails briskly flapping,
Joining the "Norfolk" on its journey's beginning.

Poem written by Jessica Dykes & Danielle Walker (Grade 5H 1998)
